The best picnic areas in Madeira

In Madeira Island we have not less than 23 picnic areas (also known as snack areas … makes sense), that invite you to have a snack in the middle of nature with the spectacular views that Madeira provides.
This is not to mention the Forest Parks, which are 7, with recreational and leisure infrastructure, used not only by the tourists, but also by the residents of the Island.

There are areas with barbecue, water, tables and benches … but the best for me is still the landscape.

Some of them:

Chão dos Louros, Sao Vicente

The Chão dos Louros Forest Park is located on the north side of the Island, in the heart of the Laurissilva Forest, where the endemic trees predominate and what is not lacking are little birds (picnic in the middle of the forest …. a dream, serious !!!!). A place that brings us peace …
A park with a structure to spend a day or even overnight in it, as it has bathrooms, grassy areas with possibility of camping and for those who want to make a walk, has access to Vereda do Chão dos Louros (1.9 km done quietly in 45 minutes).

Feiteiras, Machico

The Chão das Feiteiras is located in Poiso, one of the most sought after places by residents.
The park has several picnic areas and a camping area … a great idea to spend the night here and watch the stars.

Fanal, Porto Moniz

A very nice green area for a picnic / lunch and also to spend the day. It has easy access and has not only tables but also barbecue … yes, it is possible to make a barbecue in a beautiful area, without paying anything for it and with all structure and security.
For those who can spend the day and want to go for a walk, you are in the right Park … here is the starting point of several hiking trails.

Montado do Pereiro, Santa Cruz

Also in the Poiso area, the Forest Park of the Montado do Pereira, is in the upper part of Camacha, has great biodiversity and, along with the equipment it offers, make the place very pleasant and possible multiple uses.
In addition to the picnic areas, the park also has a camping area, soccer fields and a mini golf course.

Pico das Pedras, Santana

A privileged space in the middle of our natural forest, with several picnic areas. It has a toilet and camping area. From here, there is a walk to Queimadas, only 2 km.

Bica da Cana, Ponta do Sol

Among the more than 20 picnic and leisure areas on the Island, Bica da Cana is one of the most popular places to enjoy picnics. Although it does not have the easiest access, the view is certainly the most beautiful. Besides having all the equipment for picnic, there is also a covered area with barbecue and toilet. There is a camping area and a shelter. And from here are some highly recommended hiking trails.

Queimadas, Santana

It is from this point that Levada do Caldeirão Verde begins … in my opinion one of the most beautiful of the Island. It is an excellent idea to have a picnic if you go hiking. It has a toilet and a support house, very green, birds and some cats waiting for a good person to feed them.

Fonte do Bispo, Calheta

Ribeiro Frio, Santana

A Forest Park that is one of the most visited places on the Island. Here we have an Aquaculture Station where the trout nurseries are located, with the objective of producing trout for the repopulation of the waters of the Island. It has all the structure you need for your picnic, it just has no public restroom. From here, there are also some walks, such as Levada do Furado and Vereda dos Balcões.
